Ideas for Practicing Car Free Days

Don't use your car for one day a week, a month, or as often as you can.

Work at home one day per week.

Consciously plan your trips for errands such as the grocery store or shopping.  Try to reduce your trips by at least 50%. Combine trips. Assess the need for a trip(s) to see if you really need to go.

Buy a Hybrid.
Change your car over to biofuel or buy an alternative fuel car.

Use alternative transportation.
Ride a bike or walk.
Carpool with a neighbor or co-worker.  Most counties have a rideshare program. 

Keep your car in tune and tires inflated properly

Tips for the home

Get an energy audit on your home and make it more energy efficient.

Replace all of your light bulbs with compact fluorescents.

Put your computer, TV and appliances on power strips and turn them off when not in use.

Purchase and install solar panels.

Reduce use of hairdryers and appliances.  Remember, you are beautiful as you are!

Turn down your heat. Reduce your use of hot water.

Support local farmers, think globally, eat locally!

Eat organic food, energy savings range from 40-80% over conventional farming. 

Join Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) if it is offered in your area.

Eat vegetarian and vegan meals more often.
